The St Michael's Hospice
“Adding life to days, when days can no longer be added to life”
Archangel Michael Hospice (St. Michael’s Hospice) located in the village of Mesa Chorio in Paphos, Cyprus was commissioned and opened in June 2015 after decades of planning, petitioning and, finally, building.
As far back as the 1990’s the Latin Parish church saw a need for a purpose built hospice which was lacking in the Paphos area. Plans were drawn up and, after a period of several years, permission was finally granted by the government and Paphos Municipality in 2004, which enabled site clearing and groundwork to commence. Money for this badly needed project came from generous parishioners and friends from overseas as well as fund raising events and donations towards bricks and windows. So far, as of 2016, in excess of €2 million has been raised.
From a barren site to an area with the completed hospice in a tranquil setting is, in itself, an amazing feat but there is more to be done. Now the emphasis has changed from completing the hospice to financing its day to day operation.
The Hospice is built over three floors and, as well as the nine en-suite bedrooms, there are a lounge and cafeteria area, therapy and treatment rooms as well as reception and administration areas. Sunshades were added to the profile in 2016, affording better use of the roof garden and cooler summer temperatures in the south-facing rooms
Archangel Michael Hospice respite care is free for the first few days after which a charge has to be made because of the Covid 19 epidemic.
